Spring is FINALLY upon us-- thank the Lord--and with it comes the perfect timing for adventures. The weather is getting nice; the days are getting longer; your body is itching to crawl out of the dark hole winter put you in. Vacation time! Your friends start planning their next big trip for the summer: Basic Bitch wants to go to Hawaii, City Girl wants to go to New York, and Beach Babe wants to hit up California.
Then there’s you, the I-just-want-to-move-away-to-a-distant-country chick. So, how do you all agree on the perfect vacation where everyone is happy and gets exactly what they want? You don’t. Time to fly solo. Buy your own damn ticket and treat yo self to the best holiday you’ve ever had.
The best part is? You can do EXACTLY all the things you want to do without answering to the rest of the crowd.
"But Sadie, vacationing alone is dangerous, especially in a big city or a foreign country!" True, but you just can’t be an idiot tourist. Act like you’ve lived there your whole life! Stay somewhere safe, and don’t makeout with random strangers in a pub in Ireland…not that I’ve ever done that.
Honestly, if you're going anywhere in the U.S., then just go for it. Outside of the country, do some research first. If you’re young, single, and have nothing tying you down, then please, try this out for yourself! If you’re nervous or scared, just rent a hotel in your city for a night, or go to some fancy restaurant alone and see how you feel. It’s freeing.
I think, sometimes, we all get so caught up in being social and making new friends and being a part of the scene, that we forget who we are. I’m saying this from a personal Eat, Pray, Love kind of experience.
You need some YOU time; even if that you time is surrounded by millions of strangers in the middle of New York City. No one knows you and it’s glorious! A vacation alone is like water to your soul (cheesy, yes, but true).
It brings some confidence back into your life, like, hey, look at me taking on this city all by my lonesome! You can do hard, scary, out of your comfort zone things. I promise you all this: go take a personal adventure and you will be 1000% glad you did.
So buy a ticket, go out into the world, and go on an adventure! I promise that you won't regret it. And besides, you never know what might happen...
