Here's what I'm curious about. How does one create the appearance of looking like an adult through dress when one still looks like a 16-18 year old?
When you have a young face, it can be tricky to pass as an adult. It’s great when you’re 40, and it’s extremely convenient for all the 25 year old actors still pretending to be in high school. But for you, I would recommend making your wardrobe a little more formal/adulty.
First of all, try wearing shoes with heals. You don't have to only wear pumps (but owning a few would be good), but wear shoes with a little lift. It’s not just about height, it’s about standing up straighter and being more confident. It’s a lot easier to walk like an assertive adult in heels than in sneakers or flats.
Ignore the workout clothing trend. Don’t hesitate to dress up a little more. Dress pants are just as comfortable as sweats and probably more comfy than jeans. Forgo t-shirts and sweatshirts. Get some nicer shirts and sweaters. Avoid too many prints. Sure, flowery dresses and striped shirts are fun. But they can be a youthful look and solid colors will do you more favors.
Try blazers instead of jackets, and dresses or skirts instead of tank tops and shorts. It’s okay to look like you’re on our way to an office, because that’s apparently where ~adults~ go.
If you have a young face, try wearing makeup. Just darkening the eyebrows and wearing lipstick can do wonders. Eye makeup especially will give your face a more mature look. Experiment to see what looks good on you, and what you're comfortable with.
Still struggling? Consider a new hairstyle. You can significantly alter your appearance just with a simple haircut. Try a darker color-- dye jobs can be really fun. If you have long hair, try cutting it shorter. Be daring! Change is good. Apparently.
Being an adult can be tricky sometimes. Use your wardrobe and personal style to avoid feeling like a kid, even if you’re mistaken for one.
Good luck with the changes, and have fun!
