The long awaited trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot has finally arrived! Fans of the cult franchise have been waiting for literally decades for the return of our favorite supernatural pest control squad.
If you watch the trailer you may notice that the squad is looking a little different these days-- i.e. they’re ladies now. Not that we won’t miss Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. After all, Ghostbusters would not be what it was without the talent of these gents, but I’m also psyched to see what this new generation of ghostbusting ladies can do.
The trailer clearly shows that the spirit of the original films is alive and well with this fresh take on Ghostbusters. Starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the new crew ready to take on the rise of ghosts in New York City, the movie is an obvious homage to its origins. It will be equal parts hilarious with some creepy encounters with the long deceased. Cue Melissa Mccarthy’s head twisting around exorcist style and Leslie Jones bitch-slapping the ghost out that’s possessing her. Yikes.
A reboot of such an iconic and beloved film is never a lightly taken task. Hence why it took so long to get here; they wanted to make it the right way with the project in good hands. Paul Feig, who directed some of our favorite comedies such as Bridesmaids and The Heat, directs this new incarnation of Ghostbusters and if the trailer is any indication, the man is clearly just as much of a die-hard fan as anyone.
Want proof? Check out this behind-the-scenes featurette of the science behind Ghostbusters. That’s right-- actual science! Apparently there are some serious facts behind the fiction of snuffing out ghosts. The film had actual physicists from MIT working on their gadgets and the math to accurately portray the science behind it all. That is some serious dedication to detail to a story about hunting ghosts.
You can catch Ghostbusters in theaters this summer starting July 15th.
