By Courtney Willis
Welcome, book enthusiasts! Or maybe I’m just assuming you’re a book enthusiast for reading this article… if you’re not, then you should be.
Well, let me just introduce myself. I’m Courtney, and I’m a book enthusiast. Addict. Aficionado. Whatever.
I’m a recent college grad with a degree in Creative Writing. I know, so daring. I will admit, it is a little daunting in the real world finding a day job, but all writers have day jobs. Even JK Rowling and Stephen King had to start somewhere. It’s quite liberating to be done with school (for the time being – grad school is waiting for me, silently peeking around the corner). Right now, I can actually focus on book writing and getting my words out into the world.
So that’s what this column is going to be about. Reading all the books and writing all the books and talking about all the book-ish things: book reviews, book recs, book lists, writing inspiration, creative tips, publishing discussion, etc. Any and all of the above, you can find right here. Once a week you’ll hear from me as I explore the book world.
I can hear your excitement from here.
Let me just show you what we’re starting with. I’m a huge advocate for goals, so I love making taking on the Goodreads challenge every year. Last year I barely scraped by last year with my goal of 50 books, but I knew I was going to be done with college, so I upped the number a little bit this year.
However, I did NOT know I would be moving on a whim, which consumed a lot of time and money in the start of 2016. I’ve just barely gotten settled, and here’s what my Goodreads challenge is looking like right now:
Ouch. It makes me cringe.
But guess what? Not all is lost! Now I have some money and a room of my own, so I’m going to buckle down and get busy. I’m in the middle of revising a manuscript that I’m hoping to publish by the end of this year. I also have an entire shelf of books that need reading, and I am eager to do just that. It might even be two or three books a week, just to get caught up!
See? Lots of yummy YA goodness that I haven’t read. I have some adult and nonfiction thrown in there too, just for good measure.
Also, I have in fact read Men & Cats. It’s face out because it obviously needed to be on display. It’s a picture book. Highly recommended.
Anyway, if you want to follow along with my book reading and writing adventures, I’ll be right here every week on Blithe and Bonny.
Let me know in the comments what you’re reading, or what writing goals you’re working on. Journeys are always better with friends, so let’s go together.
Till next week, book enthusiasts. <3
