Romance novels are typically the common butt of jokes in literary circles. They’re usually made fun of by literary prudes who are probably freezing on their reading high ground. Such readers claim that romance novels are trashy, overly-sexual, and poorly written.
But not all romance novels are created equal. Just like every other genre of literature, (including literary fiction and nonfiction) there are some good romance novels and some bad ones. It is merely a matter of trial and error. Here are some reasons why romance novels are a valid form of reading:
