Let me tell you what happened last week. Two words: bad day. With the daily stress of my teaching job, I got home only wanting to turn on a movie and drown in hot chocolate. With my hot chocolate at the ready, all that was left to do was choosing a movie. But here was my issue: so many movies, so man decisions! You may have the same struggle.
So I turned to some ladies with expert opinions on choosing the perfect pick-me-up films. Here are the writers at Blithe & Bonny favorite feel-good movies:
1) Pride and Prejudice (2005):
A few of the writers mentioned this as their go to “feel good” movie. Alex said, “For me, Pride and Prejudice has been my favorite story since I was 13 and Elizabeth Bennet is my role model, basically. I grew up with her, and she's the person that I've always wanted to be/emulate. So when I feel down or if I've lost sight of myself, I'll watch the movie or read the book for the zillionth time to kind of remind myself of who I am. And the love story of course, is just beautiful.” I can’t help but agree with her. Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect combination of snarky and elegant and Mr. Darcy is just so brooding.
2) Breakfast at Tiffany’s:
Personally I think anything with Audrey Hepburn is a good “pick me up” movie. Audrey is beautiful and when I’m sad I like to watch pretty things. The story is great, and c’mon… Audrey Hepburn.
3) 10 Things I Hate About You:
Our Assistant Editor-in-Chief Melanie said, “10 Things I Hate About You is a comfort movie because not only can I drool over dreamy Heath Ledger when I feel bored or blue, but it's a fun, light-hearted movie that makes me laugh easily. And as an English-nerd, I love that Shakespearean twist.” But then again we love anything adapted from Shakespeare, so we’re a little biased.
4) Pretty in Pink:
Pretty in Pink is a classic that needs to be watched whether you are feeling happy or sad. Our Editor in Chief Natalie feels the same way: “Pretty in Pink is comforting because it's a classic girl gets the guy story. Obviously they'll get together, but they have issues along the way that deal with classic 80's teen movie drama along with more heartfelt problems. Plus, it's paired with fabulous 80's fashion.” Those jean jackets and ridiculous bangs can bring anyone out of a slump.
5) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone:
News Writer Sonia and I both watch the first Harry Potter movie when we need to feel better. This story is a lot of our childhoods, and the movie takes of us all back to happier times.
6) Pitch Perfect:
This is a great “pick me up” movie is one that you can quote every day without fail. Plus, if Fat Amy can’t make you laugh then maybe you need something stronger than a “feel good” movie.
7) Bridget Jones’ Diary:
Lifestyle writer Sadie said that this movie is one of her pick me up movies because “no matter how sucky my life gets, hers is a much bigger shit show”. Movies that make us feel better about our own lives are always a good choice.
8) Star Trek IV:
News writer, Rebecca says that this has been “my go-to forever”. Rebecca grew up with Star Trek, so it brings her back to childhood bliss. Star Trek is a great story when you need to escape our own mundane world.
Stressful day? Don’t let the stress of choosing the perfect movie add to it. You bring the popcorn—We got you covered.
